Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Thursday gunned down two more Maoists following an exchange of fire in Kandhamal district. Odisha DGP, Abhay informed that two Left-wing extremists including a woman cadre have been killed in the encounter.

As per the senior police officials, the Left-Wing extremists opened fire on SOG (Special Ops Group) & DVF (District Voluntary Force) when they were carrying out an operation in Tumudibandha area after getting inputs regarding the movement of armed Maoists today evening. In the retaliatory firing by SOG and DVF, two ultras were killed.

“We have recovered two bodies (a man and a woman in uniform), 1 INSAS, one carbine &two country-made weapons recovered from the spot. Combing operations have been intensified,” Abhay said urging the Maoists to lay their arms and return to the mainstream.

It is pertinent to mention here that four Maoists were killed in an encounter in Kandhamal district on July 5. A team of SOG & DVF had launched a raid in the forest in Kandhamal after getting reports of the presence of ultras. The deceased Maoists were carrying cumulative reward of Rs 34 lakh on their heads.

In a letter to Odisha Chief Secretary and DGP, Union Home Secretary today lauded the team of Odisha Police for the successful operation in Kandhamal in which four Left Wing Extremists were eliminated.
