Kendrapara: In a significant judgment, the District and Sessions Judge on Tuesday sentenced two persons to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) on charges of gang-raping a woman after a robbery incident at her house in the district in 2013.

According to the prosecution, the judge Gourishankar Satpathy pronounced the judgment and sentenced two accused, Ashok Jena and Babuli Jena to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under section 457 (trespassing into houe at night to commit offence), 395 (dacoity), 397 (dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 376 (rape) of the IPC. Another accused Paresh Mallick has been sentenced to 10 years of RI.

This apart, the judge has slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on each one of them failing which they would have to undergo three months of extra imprisonment.

Bhimsen Bhuyan, government counsel said “after taking all aspects into consideration, the judge pronounced the historical judgement and sentenced the two accused to rigorous imprisonment for committing robbery and gang raping woman. The conviction would go concurrently, the judge directed,”

On August 13, 2013, the three accused broke into a house at Madhuban village under Aul block of the district, committed a robbery and later gang raped the lone woman in the house.
