Bhubaneswar: Arrested IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak has been remanded to the Twin city Commissionerate Police custody for two days for interrogation in connection with the fraud case lodged against him by Bhubaneswar-based travel agency Sky King.

The SDJM Court in Bhubaneswar remanded the tainted government official to two-day custody on a plea made by the Commissionerate Police.

Earlier, police had taken his son Akash Pathak on remand for interrogation in the case. The SDJM court on Monday remanded him to judicial custody following the culmination of his four-day police remand. He is currently lodged in the Jharpada jail.

On December 17, the Commissionerate Police had obtained Akash’s custody to interrogate him in connection with the Rs 65 lakh fraud allegations levelled by Sky King.

Sky King had lodged a complaint at Kharavela Nagar police station on December 2, accusing Akash of defrauding the agency to the tune of Rs 65 lakh.

As per reports, Akash and his father Abhaykant Pathak had booked chartered flights, five star hotels and air tickets through the agency totalling around Rs 2.78 crore. However, they had paid Rs 2.13 crore while outstanding bill of Rs 65,16,233 was not cleared, the agency had alleged.

The travel agency had further alleged that the father-son duo threatened officials of Sky King of dire consequences when the latter approached them seeking clearance of the pending amount.

The father-son duo was on November 27 arrested by the Odisha Vigilance on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
