Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown against the illegal activities in the capital city, two wanted criminals involved in a series of loot and robbery cases in Bhubaneswar were nabbed following an encounter with Police near Tankapani Road here in the wee hours of Saturday.

The two criminals, identified as Arun Mallick alias Poda and Vivekananda Nayak alias Vivek, received bullet injuries on their legs during the encounter. The duo was initially admitted to Capital Hospital for preliminary treatment and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack.

Acting on a tip-off, Saheed Nagar Police Station IIC along with his team waylaid the duo near Tankapani Road while they were waiting in a car to execute a dacoity in the area.

In a bid to escape the arrest, Poda and Vivek opened fire at the cops. In retaliation, the police also opened fired injuring the duo. Police have also seized a gun from their possession.

Sources said as many as ten cases of loot, snatching and robbery were pending against Poda and Vivek at different police stations of Bhubaneswar. Further details are awaited.
