Keonjhar: Two brothers sustained grievous injuries after a bomb, allegedly planted to prevent elephants from damaging crops in a field, exploded at Binida village under Sadar ranger in Keonjhar district today.

The injured duo, Mukund Juang and Kedar Juang, was rushed to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in critical condition. The two brothers are stated to be stable now.

According to reports, Mukund and Kedar had gone to their farmland in the morning to drive away wild elephants. While passing through the agricultural land, the younger brother Kedar stepped on a country-made bomb laid in the land leading to the explosion of the bomb.

Kedar sustained critical injuries in his left leg while Mukund received injuries in his head and legs in the explosion, reports added.

"Kedar has received cross injury above his left ankle and the other has sustained injuries in his head. However they are stable now," informed an orthopaedist at the DHH, Dr Babaji Charan Nayak.

It may be noted that elephants have been damaging huge tracts of crops in acres of agricultural land in the district since the last few days. Therefore, it is suspected that the bombs might have been planted to prevent the pachyderms from destroying the crops.
