Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police today issued notices to five cinema halls in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack asking them to stop screening of movies for allegedly running shows without licences.

As per reports, Swati, Stutee, Maharaja and Keshari cinema halls in Bhubaneswar and Brundaban in Cuttack have allegedly not obtained no-objection certificates (NOC) from the Fire Services department, following which their licences have not been renewed.

It is pertinent to mention that the Orissa High Court in February this year had asked these cinema halls to get the NOCs from the Fire Services department so that their licences can be reissued.

A petition was filed in the Orissa High Court in 2015 seeking fire safety audit of cinema halls in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

On the other hand, Grand, Ekamra and Jayshree cinema halls have got interim protection from court from any action by the Commissionerate Police.
