Bhubaneswar: Odisha Transport Minister Nrusingha Sahu on Tuesday said that the State will face acute shortage of vegetables and other commodities if the nationwide truck strike, which entered fifth day today, continues further.
Speaking to the media, Sahu expressed his concerns over the ongoing strike that entered its 5th day today and said that the imports of several vegetables from other states have been affected due to the strike.
"The State is currently managing with the available stocks. However, if the strike continues for 7-8 more days, it will lead to rise in prices of vegetables and other commodities," said the minister.
The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) launched the nationwide strike on July 20 over several demands including a cut in diesel prices and withdrawal highway toll fees.
"We will continue our strike till the government doesn't listen to all our demands and take necessary steps," said president of Bhubaneswar truck owners' association, Pradeep Barisal.
