Bhubaneswar: Easing out traffic woes, tightening noose on organised crime, ensuring effective electronic surveillance system and robust emergency response system will be the top priority of the Twin City Police in the year 2020, said police commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi.

In an exclusive interview to OTV, Sarangi said, “Our focus in 2020 will be to ease out traffic problems, strict action against organised crime and habitual offenders, creation of a good electronic surveillance system in coordination with Smart City authorities for speedy detection of crime and to strengthen the emergency response system.”

At present we have 57 PCR vans which will be increased to 107 in the coming year, Sarangi said.

Speaking about reforms in the police department, Sarangi said, “I would like to change our slogan ‘We Care We dare’ to Apanaka Police Apananka Surakhya (your police your safety). People should realise that the policemen are meant for their safety.”

“We have to make efforts to create that mindset among people for which three characteristics- sensitivity, compassion and professionalism are required. We have to bring psychological and behavioural changes among the police personnel to inculcate those feelings,” the CP said.

Speaking about the success of Mo Sarkar in Police department, Sarangi said, “I was involved since the beginning when Mo Sarkar initiative was implemented in police department. From envisaging the initiative and imparting training to police personnel, I was actively involved. Not only under the Commissionerate police, I personally imparted training to master trainers across the State. As per the statistics of last three months, we have achieved huge success.”

Asked about some officials who allegedly show leniency towards criminals, Sarangi said, “If any official does not act against known offenders particularly the anti-socials who collect donation and terrorise people, I will realise that the concerned official is not interested in his job. As they are not suitable for policing in Bhubaneswar, they will be given other charges.”

Speaking about fitness, Sarangi said, “Not only police personnel, all should stay fit in the society. Our personnel work till late so they do not get proper rest and take food timely. Therefore I ask them to stay fit."
