Trade union strike: Schools, colleges in Odisha to remain closed

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today announced closure of Anganwadis, schools, colleges and universities across the State tomorrow (January 8) in view of the 2-day Bharat bandh call given by different trade unions.

Odisha School and Mass and Education secretary, Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra stated that schools will remain closed on January 8 in view of the Bharat bandh and a decision about Wednesday will be taken tomorrow.

Similarly, the government also announced that the colleges and Universities will also remain closed across the state tomorrow on account of the strike.

Moreover, the State government has asked employees of the State Secretariat and the Heads of Departments to reach office around 9.30 AM tomorrow.

As per reports, 10 trade unions have called for a 2-day nationwide strike and unions across all the sectors including banking, education, coal, steel and telecom have extended their support to the strike.
