Bhubaneswar: With rains taking the back seat in Odisha till October 7th, the moisture laden atmosphere in the State will induce intense thunderstorm and lightning activities at least for today and tomorrow.

As per the IMD and Skymet forecast,  as many as 13 districts in Odisha will experience lightning and thunderstorm today during afternoon to evening hours.

The districts that will witness the lightning activities today are: Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bhadrak-Balasore, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Nuapada, Rayagada and Dhenkanal-Angul.

As per the precise places are concerned, they are: Narsinghpur (Cuttack), near Sinapur (Nuapada), Muniguda (Rayagada),  Bhubaneswar etc.

The humidity chart of the districts in the southern interior and western parts of north interior Odisha shows the humidity ruling at more than 100 per cent. Except central Odisha districts, rest of the State has humidity of over 90 per cent.

Significantly, the IMD has made a forecast that predicts Odisha experiencing widespread  lightning activities in the same parts tomorrow (October 3). However, there is no lightning alert warning for Odisha on October 4. During the past week, IMD data shows 2-3 districts (Khurda, Balsore, Mayurbhanj) in Odisha had witnessed maximum temperature above the normal temperature.

Since an upper air cyclonic circulation will develop over northwest Bay of Bengal on October 5-6,  IMD models predict some amount of rainfall in the southern interior and coastal Odisha during the Puja time.
