Bolangir: Three persons including a woman were killed and seven other labourers injured after an SUV rammed into a stationary truck near Bairasar village under Puintala block on Sonepur-Bolangir main road in the district today.

Reports said two persons died on the spot and another person succumbed to injuries while being taken to hospital.

One of the deceased has been identified as a woman labourer of Ghumer village. The other two were the middlemen who were taking the labourers to work in a brick kiln near Phulnakhara in Cuttack.
Meanwhile, seven other labourers who received injuries in the mishap have been admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir for treatment.

Sources said around 12 persons from Ghumer and Tamia villages under Patnagarh Police limits in the district along with two middlemen were going to a brick kiln near Phulnakhara in Cuttack district in the SUV when the driver of the vehicle lost control and rammed it into the truck from the rear.

Following the mishap, locals of Bairasar staged demonstration on the road demanding compensation for the kin of the deceased.

An injured labourer of Ghumer, Hareskrushna Sahu informed, “I was going to work along with my sister and mother in the brick kiln near Phulnakhara in the van today morning when the mishap took place. My mother and the two middlemen died in the accident.”

“We were scheduled to visit Puri first and then stay at the brick kiln for around two to four months for work. We were 12 labourers and 2 middlemen,” said a labourer of Tamia, Krushna.
