Sambalpur: Tension erupted at Dhanupali police station in Sambalpur on Sunday after the police restricted a mob midway moving to gherao the police station over the alleged murder of a youth from Orampada under the police station late Saturday night.

The locals staged demonstration alleging negligence in duty by the Inspector-In-Charge of Dhanupali Police Station.

Saroj Kumar Gharai, a local alleged, "The new IIC of the police station has been neglecting his duty. The law and order situation has deteriorated in Sunapali area with two murders in last four months."

"We demand immediate transfer of the IIC and intensive patrolling in the area," Gharai demanded.

As per reports, the a youth, identified as Ganesh Oram was allegedly murdered on Saturday night by unknown bike borne assailants while he was standing on the spot with his associate Luv Oram, who was injured in the attack and being treated at the VIMSAR Burla.

Irate over the attack on Ganesh and Luv, the locals of the area moved to gherao the police station. However, the police obstructed their advancement and halted their march midway following which the locals staged a protest.

Speaking about the incident, the Superintendent Of Police in Sambalpur, B Gangadhar said, "The accused has already been apprehended by the police along with another accomplice of him on charges of aiding and abetting the accused."

Shedding more light on the murder, Gangadhar said, "The deceased and his associate were standing at the spot when a heated argument ensued with the accused."

The accused had criminal antecedents and was wanted in three cases involving rioting and Section-307, sources said.

"As far as past enmity is concerned, we will make further comments on it after the investigation is completed," Gangadhar added.
