Kandhamal: Normal life was thrown out of gear in several parts of Odisha due to cold conditions with the temperature plummeting below 10 degree Celsius in as many as 5 stations across the State on Thursday.

Sources said, this is the first time mercury slumped below 10 degree Celsius in Odisha during winter this season.

Daringbadi, also known as Kashmir of Odisha recorded the lowest temperature of 7 degree Celsius while Phulbani, the headquarters town of Kandhamal shivered at 8 degree Celsius in the morning today.

Apart from Phulbani and Daringbadi, three other weather stations recorded temperatures below 10 degree Celsius. Mercury stood at 8 degree Celsius in Sonepur, 9.5 degree Celsius in Titlagarh and 8.6 degree Celsius in Angul.

The weather department has informed that the temperature will continue to dip for a few more days.

"Its severe cold out and bonfire is the only way out to stay warm. Driving vehicles has also become difficult with dense fog engulfing the town till 11 AM," said a resident of Phulbani, Abhimanyu Sahani.
