Bhubaneswar: Teachers above the age of 45 years working in various private and government schools in Bhubaneswar will receive the Covid-19 vaccine soon, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation administration (BMC) informed on Tuesday.

The decision to inoculate the teachers has been taken keeping view the rising cases of Covid-19 in different educational institutions in the Capital city, said BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary.

"We have prepared a list of 20,000 people belonging to 5 priority categories- teachers aged above 45 yrs at government and private schools, makeshift vendors, mall, restaurant and Electricity department staff in Bhubaneswar. We aim to include them in Covid-19 vaccination drive in a month or two," Chaudhary said.

Chaudhary said testing has been increased to control the rising cases. "The State government has set target of 6000 daily tests in Bhubaneswar. The vaccination process will be intensified from April 1," he added.

Three Covid-19 cases have been identified from Balaji apartment. The contact tracing of the infected persons have been completed. A testing desk will be set up there, the BMC commissioner said.

Similarly, three students of ODM School also tested positive and their contract tracing is underway. So far, 2-3 places have been sealed in the city after detection of Covid-19 cases, the commissioner informed.

Yesterday, the capital city registered 32 fresh cases of Covid-19. While 26 cases were local contacts cases, the remaining six were from quarantine.
