Swachh Survekshan 2020: Odisha Bags Two Awards

Bhubaneswar: Odisha bagged two awards in the world's largest urban sanitation survey-Swachh Survekshan 2020 announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Thursday.

Odisha won the ‘Fastest Moving’ State award while Berhampur Municipal Corporation of the State received ‘Best Medium City’ in Innovation and Best Practices (3-10 Lakh Population).

Odisha’s 6 cities-Paradip, Barbil, Dhenkanal, Rajgangpur, Vyasanagar and Choudwar among the top 20 ranking cities in the East Zone with 50K-1L population category.

Odisha Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) congratulated the State Housing and Urban Development department and the Berhampur Municipal Corporation for their achievements.

Overall, Indore city in Madhya Pradesh was named the cleanest city for the fourth time in a row in the category of more than one lakh population. Indore is followed by Surat, Gujarat and Navi Mumbai in the category.

In the category of less than one lakh population, Karad, Saswad and Lonavala cities in Maharashtra emerged on top.

This year, the survey was conducted across 4,242 cities, 62 cantonment boards and 92 Ganga towns and was completed in 28 days.

-Jharkhand declared cleanest among States with <100 ULBs category

-4,324 Urban ULBs Declared Open defecation free

-Cities of Indore, Ambikapur, Navi Mumbai, Surat, Rajkot and Mysuru rated as 5-star cities

-1.87 crore citizen feedback received

-1.7 crore citizens registered on Swachhata App

-Over 11 crore impressions on social media

-Over 5.5 lakh sanitary workers linked to social welfare schemes and over 84,000 informal waste pickers integrated into the mainstream

-Over 4 lakh contractual employees employed by Urban Local Bodies

-Over 21,000 garbage vulnerable points identified and transformed
