Bhubaneswar: Suspended IAS officer Bijay Ketan Upadhyay was sent to Jharpada jail after the end of his Vigilance remand today.

As per reports, Upadhyay, who was caught by the state vigilance department on charges of taking bribe of Rs 1 Lakh for passing a bill, was taken on remand on December 31, 2019 after rejection of his bail at a Vigilance court here in the city.

Upadhyay’s bail plea has been next slated for hearing on January 8, 2020 and until then the suspended IAS officer of the 2009 batch will be lodged in Jarpada jail under judicial custody.

Notably, Upadhyay had vehemently denied his involvement in any graft case and categorically clarified to the media that some senior officers of his department had framed him.

However, the government of Odisha had immediately suspended him after the charges of bribery came to fore last month.
