Berhampur: In a tragic incident, a man from Ganjam district died on-board the Ahmedabad-Puri Express on Monday night. The deceased, identified as Biswanath Jena of Khandauli village, was returning from Surat.

As per reports, Jena’s health condition deteriorated while he was travelling in the train and breathed his last at around 11 pm yesterday. Jena was travelling along with three others who are said to be residents from a village in the vicinity of the former’s.

Sources said Jena was travelling to his hometown in Ganjam district for some work. He was supposed to get down at Khalikote station. He was suffering from diabetes and had stopped taking his medicines for the past few days. The exact cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.

“The persons accompanying Biswanath called up his in-laws to inform about his health. Later, we were informed that he died while returning home in the train,” said a relative.

The relative further said that Biswanath reportedly developed some health issues in the train and later died. “We were informed that Biswanath was getting constant urge for urination inside the train and had even skipped meals,” he added.

On getting information, Berhampur Government Railway Police (GRP) has started an investigation into the matter.

“The exact reason behind the passenger’s death will be known only after the post mortem is conducted. We have detained three co-passengers and they will undergo tests for Covid-19. Further investigation in this connection is on,” said GRP ASI, RK Patnaik.
