Bhubaneswar: Children studying in the schools that do not have a certification of recognition (CoR) will not be provided admission in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas or Adarsh Vidyalayas under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota.
The State School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash addressing a convention organised by the Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangha, an association of parents, in Bhubaneswar on Thursday advised the guardians not to send their children to the schools which do not have the certification of recognition (CoR) in accordance with the Right of Children to free and compulsory Education Act, 2009 and the Odisha Right of Children to free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2010.
"Schools lacking CoR cannot send their students for admission into Navodaya or Adarsh Vidyalayas," said the Minister.
The Abhibhabak Mahasangha had earlier requested the Minister to revise the concerned rule for admission into the Navodaya and Adarsh schools across the State. However, Dash clearly turned down the proposal to amend the admission norms.
As per the RTE norms, any person who establishes or runs a school without obtaining certificate of recognition or continues to run a school shall be liable to fine which may extend to one lakh rupees and in case of continuing contraventions to five of ten thousand rupees for each day during which such contravention continues.
The parent's body has demanded the Minister to take actions against private schools that are involved in exploiting parents by charging them high school fees. Besides, they have also urged to provide computer education in the schools.
Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo who also graced the event said that the role of parents is vital in the implementation of the education policy laid down by the government.
Odisha Parent's Federation chairman, Basudev Bhatta, co-chairperson Prasanna Bisoi and Rajya Sabha member and Padma Vibhushan Raghunath Mohapatra who were present at the meeting discussed the various issues of educational policies in the State.
"We discussed the issues related to supply of books in Odisha medium schools and schools without CoR with the Minister," said Bhatta.
