Rourkela: As many as 30 persons were injured after being bitten reportedly by two stray dogs in steel city Rourkela on Saturday. As per reports, the stray dogs are roaming near the petrol pump at the daily market and local residents are demanding necessary steps by civic body to capture the canines.

All the injured persons are undergoing treatment at Rourkela Government Hospital and other private hospitals in the city. Authorities informed that due to shortage of anti-rabies injection at the government hospital, people are forced to purchase it from private drug stores at high rates.

“There are two dogs in the area. One of the dogs attacked me while another attacked my 13-year-old daughter on her legs,” a victim of the dog bite said.

Meanwhile, resentment is brewing among local residents as they alleged that no step is being taken by the civic body to control the population of stray dogs. Earlier, 12 persons were injured after being bitten by stray dogs inside Rourkela Steel Plant premises in March 2019.
