New Delhi: The Supreme Court, hearing a matter relating to migrant labourers, today directed the States to provide food and all basic amenities to the travelling migrants.

The Apex Court said, "We are concerned with the difficulties of migrants trying to get to their native place. There are several lapses that we have noticed in the process of registration, transportation and provision of food and water to them."

"Those migrant workers found travelling on foot be immediately taken to shelters and provided food and all basic facilities," SC directed all the concerned States and UTs.

Supreme Court further said that no bus/train fare shall be charged from migrant workers. "They (migrants) should be provided with food by the State. Railways to provide food and water on trains," said the top court.
