Bhubaneswar: When the census enumerators will hit villages and town of the state from February 9 to start head counts for the census 2011, the personnel engaged in the task had to take special care in 17 districts identified as gender sensitive as per 2001 census.

"The 2001 census showed a big gap in the male-female ratio in the 17 of the 30 districts of the state. Therefore, we have asked the enumerators to take extra care and ensure that all females are included in the head count exercise," said Director Census, Orissa B P Sethy.

Stating that the head count of people would be completed by February 28, Sethy said that for the first time eunuchs would also be enumerated as third categry.

"Special training was given to the officials to handle enumeration of eunuchs," he said.

The state government expressed confidence that census enumerators would not face any difficulties in Maoist-affected areas even as many government officials did not go to interior areras.

Counting of the homeless popualtion would be done in the night of February 28, 2011. "Enumerators will re-visit all the households March one to five to take account of any death/birth/arrival of visitors ever since his/her last visit till the reference moment," Sethy said.

For taking census, the entire gerographical area of the state has been divided into 95,259 enumeration blocks with average population size of 800. This included 2,968 number of slum blocks in 70 urban local bodies, he said.
