Bhubaneswar: The state capital wore a glittering look on Monday to mark the 78th foundation day of the formation of Odisha as a separate province. All the major government buildings including the Assembly, Secretariat, Jaydev Bhawan, Rabindra Mandap, NALCO, RBI and Railway headquarters have been decked up in colourful lights.

To commemorate the occasion, the state government has organized a cultural extravaganza including a laser show at the Exhibition Ground to remember the contributions and sacrifices made by eminent leaders of Odisha whose efforts resulted in the formation of a politically separate state under British rule on linguistic basis on April 1, 1936.

The show will depict the movement and revolution which led to the formation of Odisha as a separate state. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, bollywood actors Rahul Roy and Padmini Kolhapure will grace the occasion.

The state government has also lined up magazine release ceremony of special editions of ‘Odisha Review’ and ‘Utkal Prasanga’.

Coinciding with the birth anniversary of Odisha, the state police also celebrates its foundation day today. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to launch the community police service in Cuttack.
