Puri: When hospitals put the health and lives of people at risk for mere monetary gains, it is a cause of serious concern. The case in point here being Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya of Puri where reports of stale bread being provided to patients have come to fore.

As per reports, several patients who are currently undergoing treatment at the Ayurveda centre are being supplied stale bread to eat.

"Giving such stale bread to patients is a crime, a sin against humanity. I request the concerned official to look into the matter," said Prasanna Kumar Nayak, a patient who was served stale bread.

The hospital authorities have reportedly accepted the allegations and assured stern action against the vendor.

"For the first time such irregularity has came to my notice. The vendor has been ordered to give an explanation. If needed, we will also blacklist the vendor," said Hrudaya Nanda Mohanty, Deputy Superintendent of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the hospital in-charge, Brahma Nanda Pradhan said that the bread packets will now bear manufacturing date and will be given to patients in presence of hospital staff.
