New Delhi: The Supreme Court today asked the Odisha government to ensure that the Puri district judge's report and recommendations on mismanagement in Puri Srimandir are uploaded on to the websites of the apex court, Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and Ministry of Culture within two weeks.
The SC further stated if the Sri Jagannath Temple Management Committee has any objections to the recommendations, they can report back to the apex court.
While hearing a petition submitted by Mrunalini Padhi of Cuttack over mismanagement in Puri Srimandir, the apex court had earlier asked the Puri district judge to submit a comprehensive report with suggestions.
Elaborating on the court's directive, petitioner’s counsel Subhransu Padhi stated, “Apart from this, the court’s amicus curiae gave a suggestion that he will prepare a blueprint on problems devotees are facing on temple premises after meeting all stakeholders. A comprehensive report will be submitted before the court during the next hearing.”
The Supreme Court had appointed amicus curiae, Gopal Subramanium and asked him to study both the reports and suggest the court necessary direction in the next hearing on July 5, informed sources.
Padhi said, "The SC has also suggested that the temple management committee should consider entry of people of other religion into the temple. Suggestions on under what circumstances they should be allowed and regulations for the same have been sought."
The apex court today reiterated that the temple managing committee has to ensure that servitors do not accept any donations. Instead ‘hundi’ (donation boxes) should be used for collecting donations, which will be utilised for the benefit of the 12th century shrine.
On the other hand, the State government said it did not get adequate time to submit a report as the Rath Yatra is on July 14 and will provide the same after that.
