Keonjhar: Hundreds of workers of SR Rungta Mines in Jajang under Joda Block of Keonjhar gheraoed the district collector's office today demanding fulfilment of their long-standing demands.

The workers, who reportedly have been protesting since several days, today intensified their stir with support from Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh.

As per reports, the workers of the company have been demanding fulfilment of their 7-point charter of demands which include release of salary arrears pending since 38 months, an end to unlawful collection of funds from workers & identity cards for all engaged labourers among others.

"The company was established 40 to 50 years back and it still cannot address the basic requirements of workers like medical allowance and accommodation facilities among others" alleged one of the protesting labourers.

"The tribal people of Keonjhar are getting exploited by the company. Though the labour union had presented their demands to the company, the administration has been ignoring them," alleged state joint secretary of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Shantanu Mohapatra.
