Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicted that the southwest monsoon will reach Odisha within the next seven days. Already several parts of the State are experiencing pre-monsoon showers, it is very likely that the monsoon will advance and hit Odisha within a week, informed a senior official of Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.

"The conditions are now favourable for advancement of the south-west monsoon towards Odisha. The state is likely to witness the onset of monsoon within a week," Director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, H R Biswas said.

While southwest monsoon's Arabian Sea branch supports the advancement of Bay of Bengal branch, cyclone Vayu had weakened the advancement of monsoon towards other parts of the country, he said.

Noting that a low-pressure area is likely to build over north Bay of Bengal in next few days, Biswas said the system help in advancement of monsoon.
