Balasore: Healthcare services were disrupted at the Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) in the district today after a few locals along with some attendants of patients locked up the main gate and staged a demonstration protesting shortage of doctors at the hospital.

The agitators rued that due to the shortage of doctors at the CHC, even critical patients are deprived of treatment and forced to shift to other hospitals.

As per reports, out of the sanctioned nine posts, only two doctors are serving patients at the Soro CHC which has compelled the residents to resort to agitation. Reports further claimed that a pharmacist has been posted at the hospital to treat patients.

"One of my relatives was scheduled to undergo an operation at the CHC and I had come to see him. However, I saw the pharmacist examining the patients at the ward. Asked, he replied that he was directed by the CHC in-charge to do so. Unless a concrete step is taken to resolve the issue of doctor shortage, we are not buzzing off," said a relative of a patient, Madhaba Dhada.

The comments from the hospital sources could not be obtained.
