Bhubaneswar: A 4-feet long rat snake was rescued from the dickey of a car in VSS Nagar area of Bhubaneswar today.

The matter came to light after a resident Kishore Jena found the snake in his car. Subsequently, Jena called the snake helpline number following which its members reached the spot and rescued the snake after removing the spare tyre (stepney).

This is not the first such incident when a snake was rescued by helpline officials in the State.

Earlier this month, 17 Cobras were rescued from a Jagannath temple in Kora village in Patkura block of Kendrapara district.

The snakes were spotted by the priest of the temple inside the premises following which he called up the villagers, who then informed snake helpline.

In another incident, an 11-feet King Cobra was rescued from a pond in Pankar village of Buguda block in Ganjam district.

The cobra was trapped in a fish net which was placed in the pond to catch fish.

After the villagers spotted the King Cobra, they informed the snake helpline officials who reached the spot and rescued the snake.
