Berhampur: A major tragedy was averted after smoke was detected in Villupuram-Kharagpur Express barely few kilometres ahead of Berhampur railway station. However, no injury to any passenger has been reported so far.

According to reports, some passengers detected smoke emanating from a battery box of S-3 coach of the train.

"The entire coach was filled with gas and out of fear we went to other side and raised an alarm," said Shakti Ghadai who was travelling in the train.

Ghadai further informed that the situation was brought under control after the train reached Berhampur railway station.

"The authorities have informed that we will have to cover the journey without airconditioners as the system has been gutted in the mishap," Ghadai added. Later, the train left for its scheduled journey from Berhampur railway station after a break of 40 minutes.
