Bhubaneswar: Police have elicited vital information from IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak’s son Akash in connection with Rs 65 lakh fraud charges levelled against him by Sky King travel agency.

Informing about the end of four-day police remand of Akash, Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Umashankar Dash today said that the suspect has answered all the questions put before him during the custodial interrogation. He added that the purpose for which the remand was sought has been fulfilled.

“We had taken Akash on four-day remand in connection with a case filed at Kharavel Nagar police station to elicit more information and evidence and take the investigation ahead. The purpose for which we had taken him on remand was successful. We will soon bring the case to the conclusion,” Dash mentioned.

The Sky King Travel agency had registered a complaint at Kharavel Nagar police station on December 2, accusing Akash of defrauding the agency of over Rs 65 lakh.

Based on the complaint of Sky King Agency, the police had moved the court seeking remand of the accused Akash Pathak for interrogation.

According to reports, Akash and his father Abhay Kant Pathak had booked chartered flights, five star hotels and air tickets through the agency which cost around Rs 2.78 crore. However, they had paid Rs 2.13 crore while outstanding bill of Rs 65,16,233 was not cleared, the agency alleged.

The company further alleged that the father-son duo threatened the officials of the Sky King of dire consequences when the latter approached to repay the bill.

“Sky King used to book charted flights, hotels in the name of Akash as he is a regular customer. The flight bookings were made for several destinations including Jamshedpur, Pune, Mumbai, Patna and Delhi,” an employee of Sky King had said.
