Gajapati: The Plus-III Science and Commerce students of SKCG  Autonomous College in Paralakhemundi on Monday staged a demonstration against the college authorities, demanding re-evaluation of 1st and 3rd semester examination papers. The students also allegedly ransacked the college property during the protest.

According to sources, many students of the two streams have failed in the semester examinations. While as many as 130 students of Commerce stream had appeared in the examination, only 18 have cleared the exam. Similarly, many students of Science stream have scored less than 30 per cent marks.

Following the declaration of the results, the students held a protest and demanded re-evaluation of answer sheets claiming that the number of failures can never be so high. The students also alleged that the college teachers have given them less marks and demanded the answer sheets to be evaluated by the lecturers of other colleges.

"I was sure of clearing the exam, but failed. The teachers of our college are giving us less marks out of personal enmity. We demand re-evaluation of the papers by the faculties of any other college," said a student.

On the other hand, refuting the allegations, College Principal, Gayatri Devi said, "All the allegations are false and no teacher wants to destroy the career of any student. Twelve students have applied for re-evaluation of the papers, but, as per the rules only re-checking and re-addition can be done. We have also given the photo copies of the answers sheets to the students."

In another incident, three students of UN College in Soro of Balasore district sustained injuries after a clash erupted between the students and outsiders today. The injured were rushed to Soro hospital for treatment. On being informed, the local police reached the college campus and detained two non-students, sources said.
