Paradip: All the six accused in connection with the murder of a liquor shop manager in 2014 in Paradip were sentenced to life by the Kujang Additional District and Sessions judge today.

The convicts are Ajit Das, Mantu Patra, Subhransu Sekhar Sukla and Jimuta Das of Kujang in Jagatsinghpur district and Ranjit Rout and Rajesh Rout of Chauliaganj area in Cuttack district.

The court pronounced the judgement based on the evidence and statements of 10 witnesses. The court has also ordered a penalty of Rs 20,000 for each of the convicts.

"The court awarded them life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each of them. In case of non-payment of the penalty, they will have to undergo additional imprisonment of six months," said Debashish Kantha, Public Prosecutor.

On July 11, 2014, manager of liquor shop Prashant Narayan Das alias Pashia was shot dead by the accused following an altercation reportedly over extortion money.

"My son-in-law was brutally killed. Almost after 5 years, the court has given its judgement and we are happy about it," said Rabindra Kumar Nath, father-in-law of the deceased.
