Gajapati: The District Child Protection Unit in Gajapati today launched 'Sishu Mitra Adalat' initiative to provide hassle-free trials of juveniles and make the court premises children-friendly.

According to sources, facilities like libraries, awareness-creating murals and video conference facility for vulnerable juveniles and their parents have been provided on Paralakhemundi court premises.

Child Protection Officer Arun Kumar Tripathy said the initiative will help juveniles and POCSO victims coming for trials.

“Any child coming to the court can avail the facilities here and accused below 18 years of age who are staying under observation outside can also be produced through video conferencing via platforms like Skype,” said Tripathy.

President of Paralakhemundi Lawyers Association Ramnath Mishra said the court will have dedicated facilities for children where they can open up about their cases freely without having to go through any harsh procedures.

“With the help of this court, we won’t have to bring juveniles to Paralakhemundi because their trials can be done directly from the observation room. Similarly, we are also sending many officials from our office to assist those who are unable to file cases against domestic violence,” said Gajapati SP.
