Angul: Stoking serious concern over security at government hospitals, eyes from the body of a 4-year-old dead girl were allegedly gouged out at the morgue of Angul District Headquarters hospital yesterday night.

As per reports, the minor girl was admitted to the hospital in serious condition last night and had succumbed later, following which her body was kept in the morgue. Today morning when the body was being taken for autopsy, father of the girl found that her eyes were removed and there were bruise marks on her nose.

After a complaint in this regard was lodged at Banarpal Police Station, cops have launched an investigation into the case.

"My daughter had breathing issues which is why we admitted her to the hospital around 9:30 PM yesterday, but she died. I found that her eyes were gouged out and there was a bruise on her nose," father of the minor girl, Anjan Gochhayat, said.

On the other hand, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Banarpal Police station, Reetarani Pradhan, said that there was no mention of eyes been gouged out in the FIR lodged by the father of the minor girl.

"He had only mentioned that the minor girl was sick and later died at the hospital," Pradhan said.

Meanwhile, relatives of the victim staged protest on the premises of the hospital, locked up the outdoor unit and even thrashed a laboratory technician of the hospital.

“After autopsy and investigation, the accused will be arrested and punished,” Angul CDMO, Pratap Behera said.

Speaking on the incident, Angul SDPO, Aswini Kumar Sahoo said, “Based on the complaint registered by the father of the minor girl, we have initiated an investigation. The eyes of the deceased have been damaged. We have informed the Executive Magistrate regarding the case. Only after an autopsy, we will get more details.”
