Bhubaneswar: The ruling-BJD has strongly opposed the decision of the railways to shift the Bhubaneswar office of Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE) to Bangalore. Alleging that it is a clear case of violation of model code of conduct, BJD Spokesperson Sasmit Patra on Saturday informed that the party would move the State Election Commission (SEC) in this regard.

BJD alleged that the model code of conduct for the upcoming polls is in force since March 10 and the order to shit the CORE office was issued on March 13.

The BJD further alleged that it is a ploy of BJP to win elections in Karnataka and the move will have an adverse impact on the execution of six upcoming developmental projects in Odisha.

Stressing that the Bhubaneswar CORE office was engaged in the entire electrification work of the railways in Odisha, Patra said, “The BJP-led Central Government had earlier bifurcated Waltair division of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) to create South Coast Railway (SCoR) in a bid to attract voters in Andhra Pradesh. Now, it has transferred the CORE office to Bangalore which is a ploy of the party to win elections in Karnataka.”

“By shifting the CORE office, the model code of conduct has been clearly violated by the party,” alleged Patra.

On the other hand, East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Saturday issued a clarification on the shifting and said Indian Railways has initiated reorganisation of CORE by merging and transferring of its Chief Project Director (CPD) jurisdiction of Railway Electrification (RE) units in different parts of the country.

“In this process, some of the projects works have been transferred to such units that are viable as per administrative and technical point of view. Similarly, some projects have been decided to be merged and shifted the set ups of CPD as their works have been completed,” said the ECoR.

The ECoR further added, “The Railway Electrification office at Bhubaneswar has been shifted to Bangalore for its new assigned works in Karnataka. The works assigned to RE/Bhubaneswar for electrification of Azimganj-New Farakka line in Bengal have been shifted to Danapur in Bihar for better monitoring of ongoing projects, there.”

Railway Electrification Units at Bhubaneswar and Kolkata have been decided to be closed after March 31, 2019. Hence, the staff and officers of RE organization posted in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata will be allowed to continue till current academic session. Later, they will be adjusted as per their choice to the maximum extent possible informed the ECoR in a statement.

Meanwhile, BJP in a press release said that BJD is making a mountain out of a molehill.
