Bhubaneswar: In a new development in the Beltikiri shelter home shame, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will probe the financial transactions and source of foreign funding of Good News India NGO which runs the childcare home in Dhenkanal and other parts of the State.

A senior ED official requesting anonymity stated that a detailed probe will be carried out to ascertain the source from where 22 shelter homes of Good News India used to receive funds. Basically, the source of foreign funding will also be under scanner.

Official sources said, ED has also asked the Dhenkanal Police to submit FIR copy and chargesheet of the case.

"The agency might seek remand of Good News India chief Fayaz Rahman under the FEMA Act for questioning on the money trail of the NGO," said a senior official.

The move comes two days after the member of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Yashwant Jain alleged that Odisha government did not followed guidelines on protection of children at shelter homes strictly.

Jain also stated that the concerned officials of the State government do not have mapping or proper data on where actually the shelter homes are running in different parts of the State.

Meanwhile, the Biju Mahila Janata Dal targeted the NCPCR team and claimed that Odisha is a model state as far as the issue of child protection is concerned.

"At a time when several delegations from other States are visiting Odisha to know more about the State's model, the Opposition is politicising the issue," said Kasturi Mohapatra, a leader BJD's women's wing.
Besides, the Morcha stated the foreign funding does not come under the purview of State government.

"The way the Union Minister wrote the letter on the issue to the chief minister is not acceptable,” Mohapatra added.

Responding to BJD Mahila Morcha's allegations, BJP spokesperson Lekhashree Samantasinghar said, “The State government gets involved in corruption and moral misconduct always. But when the issue comes out in public, they (the government) try their best to suppress the matter.”
