Puri: Amid of the ongoing hue and cry across the country over the gang rape and murder of a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad, a girl in Odisha was allegedly gang raped today.

As per reports, the girl was waiting near Nimapara bus terminal to return to her home at Kakatpur in Puri district when four persons, one of them claiming to be a policeman, allegedly offered her help. Later, they allegedly abducted the girl and took her to government quarters near Jhadeswari Club and gang raped her.

"I was returning to Kakatpur from Bhubaneswar in a bus. I alighted from the bus at Nimapara to have food and missed the bus. Later, when I was standing at the Nimapara bus terminal, a person introduced himself as a policeman by showing his identity card and offered help. When I denied, he along with three others forcibly dragged me into the car and took me to the government quarters in Puri," said the survivor.

Further narrating her ordeal, she alleged that while two persons locked the quarters' door from the outside, two others raped her. "After drinking, when they fell asleep I called a person through the window and managed to escape from the spot with the wallet of one of the accused, which contains a police identity card," she added.

Meanwhile, police have detained the main accused Jitendra Sethi, who was reportedly dismissed from service by the police department. Besides, three other accused have also been detained by the police.

"The girl's statement is being recorded. Stern action will be taken against the culprits. Whoever is found involved, be it from the police department, will not be spared," said Puri SP Umashankar Dash.

Till the last report came in, the survivor was sent to the hospital for medical examination.

Protesting the incident, Odisha Congress members took out a candlelight rally from party headquarters in Bhubaneswar to Naveen Niwas.
