Cuttack: Police on Saturday evening arrested a minor boy in connection with the sexual abuse and abortion of a college-going minor girl of Narasinghpur area in the district.

Reports said, police have kept the minor boy at the office of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and interrogating him in connection with the case. He will be taken for medical examination today and later will be forwarded to the POCSO court.

Earlier yesterday, the Sub-Inspector of Narasinghpur Police Station, Rabindra Nayak was placed under suspension for his alleged involvement in the case.

Before that, the police had arrested the husband of the Sarpanch of Saradhapur panchayat, two uncles and brother of the accused minor boy and forwarded them to the court. With this, a total of five persons have been arrested in connection with the case so far.

Based on the complaint of the minor girl, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Cuttack had pulled up Nayak for detaining the girl illegally at Narasinghpur Police Station for three days and terminating her pregnancy forcefully.

In October, a complaint was filed with the Narasinghpur police about the missing of the girl. However, after allegedly tracing the girl, the police did not take her home and instead detained her at the police station for three nights, alleged the family members of the girl.

They further alleged that an official at the police station even made the girl undergo pregnancy test without obtaining the consent of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and after the report came positive, she was forced to abort her baby.

A team of police under the supervision of Cuttack SP Jugal Kishore Kumar Banoth is investigating the matter and a case under the POCSO Act has been registered.
