Bhubaneswar: A day after the State government effected a major reshuffle in the senior bureaucratic level, senior IAS officer Gagan Dhal has reportedly resigned from the service today.

Dhal, who is a 1985-batch IAS officer and presently serving as the Agriculture Production Commissioner was due for retirement from the service in January 2020.

Dhal was the senior most IAS officer present in the State bureaucracy after the voluntary retirement of Chief Secretary AP Padhi a few days ago to become the State Election Commissioner. However, the State government appointed 1986-batch IAS Asit Tripathy as the new Chief Secretary of the State despite Dhal being ahead of him in seniority.

The State government on Thursday also appointed IAS Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra as the Agriculture Production Commissioner in place of Gagan Dhal, however, surprisingly the latter was not transferred to any other department.
