Balasore: A Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police today arrested one dealer Sukant Sahu from Basta area of Balasore district in Odisha in connection with the seizure of 1000 kg of explosive materials on March 10.

Sources said both Kolkata and Odisha Police are conducting a coordinated investigation to find out the actual reason behind the transport and the end-use of such huge quantity of explosives.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Odisha Crime Branch STF, Rahul PR informed that investigation is underway to establish whether the accused has any links with any other organisation, gang or mafia.

“Balasore Police had apprehended the accused following which the Odisha Police STF and Kolkata Police STF jointly interrogated him. We are verifying the details that we have elicited from him during the interrogation. The Kolkata Police has meanwhile arrested him and are taking him to Kolkata for further verification,” said Rahul PR.

On March 10, the Kolkata STF reportedly intercepted a vehicle in Kolkata and seized 27 gunny bags containing around 1,000 kg of explosive substance (potassium nitrate). They also arrested two youths of Odisha in connection with the incident.
