Puri: Odisha police has beefed up security arrangements across Puri especially in and around Lord Jagannath Temple following an intelligence warning on a possible terrorist attack on the 12th century shrine.

According to sources, security measures have been tightened in the pilgrim city after Intelligence Bureau (IB) recently informed Puri district Superintendent of Police (SP) Umashankar Das about a possible attack on the famous temple.

Adequate security personnel have been deployed to maintain vigil around the clock while police patrolling is being carried out in the town to check any suspicious activities. Besides, the district police is keeping tab on suspected persons from the watch towers. Police are also verifying the CCTV surveillance system to full proof the security.

Likewise, naval and coast guards personnel have expedited patrolling in the coast and adjoining areas.

Sources said, a special team also has been formed to keep an eye on strangers visiting the seashore during the night. Moreover, temporary police posts have been set up at all entry and exit points of Puri to check all incoming and outgoing vehicles.

"Puri Srimandir is considered to be one of the supreme religious institutions of the country and one of the ‘Char Dhams’. Keeping in view the terror threat, adequate police force have been deployed in and around the temple to avoid any untoward incident," informed Puri SP Umashankar Das.
