Malkangiri: Security arrangements have been tightened in the district as the Maoists have announced to observe the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Week from today.

The week-long observation of the armed wing of the banned Maoist organisation will continue till December 8.

According to sources, PLGA week will be observed by the Maoists this year with a resolve to regain their footing and armed strength by attracting young people into their cadres.

The outlawed Maoists are pushed on a back-foot by security forces across the major conflict-ridden insurgency areas in the country. They exhorted Maoist cadres to continue the armed struggle with their Central Military Commission (CMC) taking the onus to bolster the organisation’s tactics against the government’s new offensives.

Generally, during the observation of PLGA week, Maoists organise meetings in different villages and urge the villagers to join their cadres. They also indulge in various violent activities to put pressure on the administration.

However, elaborate arrangements have been made by Malkangiri district administration this time to avert any untoward incident by the Red Ultras. Security arrangements have been tightened throughout the district. A general high alert has been sounded in the district in the wake of Maoists observing ‘PLGA Week’. The district police and paramilitary forces are on high alert in the Naxal-infested areas. Besides, plying of Government bus services has been stopped in the sensitive areas.
