Secure Phone Number For Informants Helps Odisha Police Foil Smuggling Bid

Bolangir: Two persons were arrested and a large cache of cough syrup being smuggled from Bhubaneswar was seized by Bolangir Police following a valuable piece of tip-off. Bolangir Police was able to intercept the illegal consignment based on a tip-off received through a mobile number that had been released by Bolangir SP to receive information of illegal drugs trade.

As per reports, the mobile number (9438916510) was released by SP of Bolangir, Sandeep Madkar for public to send information without worrying about being exposed.

The Additional SP of Bolangir, Subash Chandra Jamadar said, “The mobile number is used by the SP himself and is totally secure. Informants can send messages through WhatsApp too. The identity of the informants won’t be divulged at any cost.”

The mobile number was put to good use on Thursday as a team of police led by Bolangir SDPO Srimant Barik seized no less than 10,680 bottles of contraband cough syrup from a pickup truck after the SP got a tip-off on the aforesaid phone number.

The truck was intercepted near Puintala Police station on Bolangir-Sonepur National Highway-57. Two accused namely Sana Negi, the alleged mastermind behind this illegal drug trade and his associate Prashant Kheti were arrested in the raid.
