Sambalpur: The Students’ Association of SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) has extended support to the ongoing agitation by the Junior Doctors Association (JDA) at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, Sambalpur.

The medical students took out a rally inside the SCB hospital premises by holding placards and demonstrated peacefully as a mark of solidarity to the agitating VIMSAR doctors.

Meanwhile, the body has also threatened to intensify the agitation if appropriate action is not taken against the director of VIMSAR, Aswini Pujahari.

“We strongly condemn the atrocities upon the staff and students of VIMSAR by its director and extend our full support to the ongoing agitation. We hope that an impartial probe is being conducted against the director and if no steps are taken against him, we will intensify the stir,” said president of SCB students’ association, Dr Dilip Kumar Samant.

On the other hand, Pujahari said "If strikes continue one after another, there cannot be any peace or progress in the hospital."

Earlier on November 26, a four-member team of the State Health department had visited VIMSAR to probe the allegations levelled against the institute’s director after the same was directed by the Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal.

It is pertinent to mention that JDA and Pujahari are at loggerheads after the latter took a professor to task inside a classroom, a video of which had gone viral. Pujahari had lambasted the professor for reaching late to classroom and taking classes of all PG students simultaneously in one class.

This apart, Pujahari’s move to shave the head of an alcoholic patient at the outpatient department had also drawn sharp criticism.
