Cuttack: As part of the mega redevelopment plan of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack Collector Bhawani Shankar Chaini and officials of several concerned departments conducted an on-spot assessment of the locations where eviction is likely to be launched soon.

The senior administrative officials today held discussions with the people, traders and others who will be displaced by the expansion project of SCB.

The officials now face a daunting task of making the people aware of the rehabilitation and resettlement and the compensation package announced by Odisha government.

“I have been doing business here for the last 25 years. The authorities have assured that the traders will be rehabilitated and compensation will be provided. Moreover, the officials have assured to rehabilitate us within 200 mts of our original establishment. But if we are relocated to some other place, it will certainly create problems,” said Chinmay Behera, a trader.

“The authorities should rehabilitate us by creating a new market complex,” said Pradipta Behera, another trader at Jobra fish market.

Cuttack Collector Bhawani Shankar Chaini categorically stated that if people or traders do not vacate the land voluntarily, they will face eviction.

“We are encouraging people to opt for the government package announced for the redevelopment plan of SCB. We have identified some place near Jagatpur where the people, who will lose their land, will be rehabilitated,” said Chaini.

Chaini further assured that special provisions are being made for the rehabilitation of the traders as well.
