Cuttack: With Matric exams in Odisha all set to commence from February 19, the ongoing eviction drive around the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack has increased worries among students residing in the area.

The local administration has reportedly ordered the residents at PWD colony near the SCB to vacate the government quarters by February 28. As the exam is ahead, such relocation will adversely affect the preparation of the students, said parents.

"We welcome the SCB expansion move of the Odisha government but we are now worried about the eviction drive during this exam season. We are facing difficulties in getting a house on rent in such short span of time," said a parent, Shivani Sahoo.

All the efforts of the government to enhance performance of students will be in vain, if such eviction affect preparation of students, she added.

Some parents reportedly apprised the district collector about the matter when the latter was on a field visit to the colony for eviction. After listening to the parents, the collector has assured that the eviction drive will resume only after the examinations conclude on March 3.

"We visited the colony to remind people to vacate the buildings and other establishments set up on government land by Wednesday. However, for the time being, we are not going to evict the families whose children are going to appear for the upcoming exams," said Cuttack Collector, Bhabani Shankar Chaini.
