Sonepur: Amid the allegations of mismanagement and irregularities at quarantine centres across the State, another incident of a lady being misbehaved at the COVID-19 facility has come to fore in Odisha.

The incident has been reported from the quarantine centre at Andharibanji under Dunguripali block in Sonepur district.

As per reports, Andharibanji sarpanch Banamali Sa allegedly misbehaved with an 18-year-old girl at the COVID-19 quarantine centre in the village. The matter came to fore after the girl opened up about her ordeal.

She alleged, "I was staying all alone in one room, no female inmates were there with me. The sarpanch barged into my room in an inebriated condition and misbehaved with me. He was forcing me to move to some other room."

Alleging that police refused to help her when she narrated her torment to them, she said, "The cops said that they can't do anything for me till I am in the quarantine centre. They also told me to register a police complaint first."

However, the sarpanch refuted the allegations and said, "There is no truth to the allegations brought by the girl against me. It's an attempt to belittle my image," said Sa.

Last month, a lady inmate at a quarantine centre at Daringbadi of Kandhamal district had alleged that a local resident misbehaved with her while she had gone to attend nature’s call. Later, based on her complaint, police detained the accused for questioning.

Earlier in a video that went viral on social media, Baliapal block (Balasore) BDO Chhabirani Sahoo was purportedly seen losing her cool and badmouthing some migrant workers who had returned from Surat, after they asked for drinking water.

Sahoo was allegedly caught on cam saying ‘I am an OAS officer, not a bonded labourer like you.’

A similar incident came to fore later when the BDO of Chhendipada (Angul) Sunil Kumar Kerketa was accused of verbally abusing some women migrant labourers when they asked him to send them to quarantine facilities in their blocks.
