Sarpanch attacks villagers in Ganjam
Berhampur: At least six persons suffered injuries after they were allegedly attacked by the Sarpanch of Tentulia panchayat under Khallikote block of Ganjam district. According to sources, the incident took place on January 2 during the inauguration of a mandi in Bagalpur village.
During the program, many villagers had arrived to sell their paddy; however, Sarpanch Sulu Swain said that only his own paddy will be sold. Subsequently, a scuffle broke out between the Sarpanch and the villagers following which the former attacked an elderly person and five others, informed sources.
As per allegations of the villagers, they lodged a complaint at Bhejiput Police Station, but the sub-inspector refused to take any action against Swain.
No comments could be obtained from the concerned Sarpanch.
