Malkangiri: Despite multiple instances of pregnant women being carried on cots and slings to get medical treatment, the State government seems to have turned mute spectator to their woes.

In one such incident, a pregnant woman was carried on a stretcher for at least 4 kilometres in Malkangiri district last night after an ambulance failed to reach her village due to lack of motorable road.

As per reports, the woman identified as Rame Madhi of Kandiguda village in Kalimela block went into labour late Sunday night following which her family members called an ambulance to take her to the hospital.

However, the ambulance could not reach Kandiguda due to bad road to the village and had to stop at Kumarguda.

With no alternative, the family members of Madhi along with some villagers took her on a stretcher and walked around four kilometres to reach the ambulance.

Subsequently, Madhi was rushed to Kalimela hospital. Till last reports came in, Madhi was undergoing treatment at the hospital. Further details awaited.
