Rayagada: Residents of Gunupur in Rayagada district are a worried lot owing to lack of proper drainage system in the town. Moreover, the lackadaisical attitude of the local administration has made life of the people miserable.

As per reports, in many wards of the municipality drains are lying defunct which lead to splashing of polluted water on the roads. Locals alleged flowing of dirty water on the roads leads to unbearable foul odours.

Reportedly residents of ward no-18, 9 and 5 apprised the concerned people's representatives about the issue, but any work is hardly to be carried out to resolve the issue.

"We have made repeated requests to councillors and concerned government officials. However, they are not paying any heed to the requests," said Jayanti, a resident of ward no-9.

Meanwhile, the locals have threatened to stage protests in the coming days if the drainage work doesn’t begin soon.

Responding to the allegations, Gunupur Executive officer Bhabagrahi Sahu said immediate steps will be taken to address the issue on priority basis.
